CFGV Donors

ReFUND CO highlights an easy way

to support our mission!

If you get a Colorado state income tax refund, ReFUND CO allows you to directly support a local nonprofit doing important work here in Gunnison County. The program puts you in control of deciding to donate some or all of it and choosing exactly which Colorado-registered organization will directly benefit. For CFGV, this provides a new way to fund our ongoing work in the community.

Whether you do your taxes yourself or use a tax preparer, RefundWhatMatters.org provides simple instructions for how to make sure your refund donation goes to making an impact on the Gunnison Valley community. It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Decide how much of your refund to donate.
  2. Enter Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley and our registration number 20043002500 in the Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit Fund line on your state income tax return or tax software – or just give this info to your tax preparer when you share your tax documents.
  3. Smile knowing you’ve helped us take on the biggest challenges facing the Gunnison Valley.

You can learn more details about the program at RefundWhatMatters.org. If you’d like to support a different Gunnison Valley nonprofit directly, it’s easy to check and see if they’re eligible. Just head to RefundWhatMatters.org and search for nonprofits in our zip codes. We have found that it works best if you search for both 81230 and 81224 to make sure you’re seeing all of the local options. At this time, it’s only possible to support one nonprofit per year through this program. If you have several favorites, you may wish to cycle through them over the years.

When you choose to donate from your state income tax refund, your contribution will go directly to the nonprofit you select. Thank you in advance for sharing your tax refund with the nonprofit community in the Gunnison Valley so we can re-energize our important work.

Important Note on Acknowledgment

Because state law makes taxpayer information confidential, we won’t know that you donated to us through this program. Thank you in advance for your generous, anonymous gift!

However, if you need a written acknowledgment to deduct the contribution on your federal taxes, you will need to demonstrate to us that you gave through Donate to Colorado Nonprofit. You can send us your completed Voluntary Contributions form to fulfill our reporting requirements, and then we can get you a tax receipt indicating your gift was made via this program.
