Give the gift of reading today!

Imagination Library

You light the future with the spark of literacy!  Reading begins at home on parents’ laps.

In collaboration with Dolly Parton and her foundation, the adventure of literacy begins.   Every child in the Valley is eligible to receive an age-appropriate book each month – delivered right to them! This almost magical program exists thanks to the belief and generosity of you, our extraordinary donors.

Imagination Library Kids With Books

Olivia and Zeke just checked the mailbox!

In collaboration with Dolly Parton’s Dollywood Foundation and CFGV donors, every month a new, carefully selected book is mailed to each preschool child in Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties who is registered with the program.   Reading to a child during preschool years is the biggest boost toward a successful education we can give our children.  Valley children are excited to grow their very own library and look forward to “their” mail arriving.  In Dolly’s own words, “If my Imagination Library helps turn the dreams of a child into the promise of a bright future, then one of my biggest dreams will come true.”

Imagination Library Greg and June Reading

June and Greg Reading Together

“June wasn’t even one year old by the time we made a daily habit of reading. It’s easy to get out of that habit when a busy day-to-day life takes hold. Getting a book in the mail each month reminded us to continue making reading a priority each day. It’s fun to watch her grow and develop from recognizing colors to remembering animals. It won’t be long before she’s reading the words on her own!” -June’s dad, Greg

Enrollment in the program is easy!  Pick up a form at your library, your doctor’s or dentist’s office, Health and Human Services, or call the Foundation at 641-8837 and we’ll mail one to you!

“I see many pregnant mamas and new parents at the clinic. I always tell these patients how important reading to their child is for cognitive development, even from a very young age. Signing Koa up for Imagination Library through CFGV was one of the first things we did when he was born!” – Dr. Laura V

Reading in diapers is a favorite pastime when you’re just a few months old.

Support for the program comes from local folks, service clubs, businesses and many part-time residents as well.  Thanks to all who understand the value of literacy for the futures of our youngest community members.  You are making a huge difference in the lives of Valley children!   Major sponsors are Crested Butte Rotary Club, The  Rotary Club of Gunnison,  the Jack H. and William M. Light Charitable Trust and Walmart.

Over 1000 local youngsters have been served by this program.
