Sending Love and Healing to our Friends and Family in Texas
There’s no question that the ties between Gunnison County and Texas are generations deep. We are grieving for everyone in our local community who has been touched by the tragedy that took place in the Texas Hill Country last week. Our hearts go out to everyone affected.
This unimaginable tragedy hits hard. As the days pass, we read more stories of both devastating heartbreak and remarkable heroism as Texans and their neighbors come together to respond to the flooding. If you’re searching for a way to help people affected by the floods, we have curated the list below of nonprofits working on the ground. Any gift you can make will help with ongoing search efforts, feed people impacted on the ground, or address other important needs that emerge as the situation develops.
Local Community Foundations
There are over 1,800 community foundations worldwide. Like CFGV, these organizations are deeply connected to their local communities, working hand in hand with the nonprofit sector, private businesses, and local governments to build community and look out for their neighbors. The local community foundations in central Texas quickly responded to this hundred-year flood, establishing funds to support the long-term disaster recovery efforts.

Gifts made to the funds may be used to support nonprofits, first responder agencies, and local governments involved in responding to the disaster.
Other Nonprofit Organizations
In addition to the work being led and supported by local community foundations, there are dozens of other organizations hard at work on the ground.
- Austin Pets Alive! is providing support for displaced pets.
- Bo’s Place is providing mental health support for children and families affected by the floods.
- Cajun Navy 2016 is helping with rescue and recovery efforts.
- Convoy of Hope is distributing relief supplies on the ground to people in need.
- Embrace Relief is providing critical supplies, including food, water, clothing, and first aid, to affected families.
- Kerrville Pets Alive! is working with Austin Pets Alive! to help reunite pets and families.
- Texas Children’s Central Texas Hope Fund was launched by Texas Children’s to support programming developed by Texas Children’s for children affected by the floods.
- TEXSAR assets, including swiftwater teams, boats, drone teams, K9s, and more, are deployed to Kerr County.
- World Central Kitchen is providing meals and water to first responders and impacted families.
