Celebrating Colorado Gives Day

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to Gunnison County nonprofits for Colorado Gives Day! While the giving season is relatively short, your impact is felt throughout the year. You keep the Gunnison Valley ticking, whether you contribute to organizations providing basic needs, recreation, the environment, animal welfare, the arts, or more.

Inaugural Gunnison County Gives

In 2024, CFGV served as a Regional Champion for the first time ever. This allowed us to feature all the Gunnison County nonprofits on a single page, making it easier to find great causes to support. Colorado Gives Foundation also contributed funding for us to promote Gunnison County Gives in the newspapers and they gave us a $200 prize to award to the nonprofit who received donations from the highest number of donors. Join us in giving three cheers for the Colorado Gives Foundation!

By the Numbers

  • Generous donors gifted over $160,000 to Gunnison County organizations between November 1 and December 10 this year.
  • 726 donations were made by 474 donors.
  • More than $93,000 was given on Colorado Gives Day itself. The second highest giving day was Giving Tuesday, with nearly $19,000 in gifts that day.
  • Crested Butte Land Trust won the $200 prize for the organization who had the most donors give on ColoradoGives.org between November 1 and December 10.

Watching the donations roll in on December 10 and your collective impact grow was so inspiring.

Statewide Totals

One of the best parts about Colorado Gives Day is that it mobilizes people from all over the country who care about Colorado to all give together. Here are a few stats about how we did statewide.

  • $54.6 million was given through 245,790 donations!
  • Almost 95,000 people donated.
  • Nearly 800 new nonprofits participated this year.
  • Since Colorado Gives Day began 15 years ago in 2010, more than half a billion dollars have been donated to Colorado nonprofits. Wow!

My birthday is in October. This year, I decided to run a marathon to celebrate. My marathon experience is parallel to much of our work at CFGV. The visible part was race day, but that was only a sliver of preparation that went into success.

Is Your Nonprofit Structure Obsolete?

Is Your Nonprofit Structure Obsolete?

Perhaps your nonprofit governance is working like a charm: you’re finding enough board members who have the time and commitment to consummate the pledge they likely signed at the start of the term. But, when I worked for the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley, I wagered that at least half – and maybe more – of the nonprofits I spoke with raised issues like: The board is too big. The direction has changed but some of the original members have not. Board members just don’t have the time to do what they are expected to do. Some board members would rather be doing programs than governance. It’s hard to find board members in a small valley…
