Introducing Community-Directed Stories

What are you curious about?

Have you ever had a random question about the nonprofit sector in the Gunnison Valley? It could be “why did someone start XYZ nonprofit?”  Or something like “what’s the oldest nonprofit in the Valley?” Or, “are there ways that nonprofit a and nonprofit b work together?” We have questions like that all the time.

Inspired by a project we learned about in Seattle where journalists sourced questions from their readers, we wanted to explore doing something like that with your questions about the nonprofit sector and individual nonprofits in the Gunnison Valley. Here’s how it will work:

Month One

If you’re curious about something nonprofit-related in the Gunnison Valley, fill out our anonymous form by May 4, 2026 and tell us your question. CFGV staff will meet to go through the questions and pick a handful that we are most curious about.

Graphic including text: "Curious about something in the nonprofit sector in the Gunnison Valley?" then a graphic showing a cycle. Then text shwoing "Introducing... Community-Directed Stories... AKA your chance to shape the sotires we share on cfgv.org." and the CFGV logo.

Month Two

We’ll share a poll to the possible questions. You can vote on which one you’d most like us to answer for you. Whichever question gets the most votes will be our assignment and we’ll dig in to try to find out the answer.

Month Three

We’ll publish a story with an answer to your question. Make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter so you don’t miss the story when it comes out.

Thanks for joining us in this experiment. We are excited to see what your questions are and we’ll do our best to find interesting answers for you!

Simplified Summary

Do you have a question about nonprofits in the community? We want to help you answer it.

Here’s how:

  1. Fill out our form with your question. Staff will pick a handful of favorite questions.
  2. Next month, vote on your favorite question. We will try to answer it.
  3. During month 3, we’ll publish a story on our blog with the answer we find.

Make sure you are signed up for our newsletter so you don’t miss it.
