Make Your Philanthropy Count this DAF Day in Gunnison County
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) at Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley (CFGV) is one of the most flexible and tax-smart ways to support the causes you care about most. With a CFGV DAF, you can make contributions when it makes sense for you, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to local organizations over time—all while we handle the details. This year on DAF Day, CFGV is celebrating the generous people who support Gunnison County’s nonprofit sector year-round.
Recent changes to federal tax law mean 2025 is an especially good year to think about your charitable giving strategy. Whether you’re already a CFGV DAF advisor, exploring what a DAF could do for you, or wondering if transferring an existing DAF might make sense, we’re here to help you navigate these changes and support the Gunnison Valley in the way that works best for you.
The team at CFGV is honored to serve as a resource and sounding board as you build your charitable plans and pursue your philanthropic objectives for making a difference in the community. A Note about 2025 Tax Changes for CFGV DAF Advisors
You may have heard about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that was signed into law this summer. As your partner in philanthropy, we wanted to flag a few changes that could affect your charitable giving strategy starting in 2026.
Here's what's changing:
We published an article in August with some details about changes coming with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, but we wanted to flag a couple of reasons you should be thinking about this during the last quarter of 2025:
- Starting in 2026, you’ll need to give more than 0.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) before charitable contributions qualify for a deduction (if you itemize)
- For folks in the highest tax bracket, the value of the charitable deduction drops from 37% to 35%
What this means for you:
If you’re thinking about making a contribution to your CFGV DAF, doing so before December 31, 2025 lets you take advantage of the current, more favorable tax treatment. And as always, funding your DAF now means you’ll have resources ready when you see a local need or opportunity that moves you.
Beyond the tax conversation:
Of course, taxes are just one piece of why you give. Your CFGV DAF puts you at the heart of local philanthropy, and we’re here to help you make the most of it. We invite you to:
- Recommend grants to nonprofits working on the issues you care about—housing, education, the environment, the arts, and more
- Connect with us anytime you want to talk about what’s happening in the Valley and where you might want to direct your support
- Explore opportunities that align with your values and vision for our community
We’re always happy to talk through questions or help you think strategically about your giving.

Let's Talk About Whether a CFGV DAF is Right for You
A Donor Advised Fund at CFGV combines flexibility with tax advantages, and it’s designed for people who want to support the Gunnison Valley over time. If you think about your giving holistically and strategically, or would like to, a DAF might be right for you. Here’s how it works.
The Basics:
A DAF is a straightforward way to organize your charitable giving.
- You contribute cash, stock, or other assets to your fund and receive an immediate tax deduction
- Your fund grows through tax-free investment, giving you more to grant over time
- You recommend grants to nonprofits whenever and wherever it makes sense to you
- CFGV handles the administrative work—the paperwork, due diligence, and recordkeeping
This process gives you the time to be thoughtful about where your support goes and ensure your charitable giving dollars have the greatest possible impact.
Why we're talking about this now:
Yes, it’s almost DAF Day. That’s not the only reason we’re talking about this now. You’ve probably heard about recent tax law changes. Starting in 2026, the tax benefits of charitable giving will be a bit less generous for many people:
- If you itemize, you’ll need to give more than 0.5% of your AGI before contributions qualify for a deduction
- Those in the top tax bracket will see their deduction value decrease from 37% to 35%
Opening and funding a CFGV DAF in 2025 means you can take advantage of current tax rules while setting up a tool for your long-term giving. That said, we know taxes aren’t the only reason people give—and we’re happy to explore whether a DAF makes sense for your situation, regardless of timing.
Why work with CFGV:
We’re rooted right here in the Gunnison Valley. That means:
- We know the landscape: We can help you understand which organizations are doing great work in the areas you care about
- We get it: We understand both the opportunities and challenges facing our community, and we can help you think strategically about your impact
- We’re neighbors: Your philanthropy stays local, and so does the expertise guiding it
Whether you want to support affordable housing, youth programs, environmental conservation, or the arts, a CFGV DAF helps your generosity create lasting change here at home. Have questions? Let’s talk.

Either way, you’ll benefit from personalized service and the satisfaction of knowing you have a local partner helping you make thoughtful decisions about your giving.
