Support Healthy Choices for Gunnison Valley Youth
Fund Background
The Choice Pass Community Support Fund was opened twelve years ago in October 2013 by the Board of County Commissioners to support the Choice Pass Program, which has been run by Gunnison County Substance Abuse Prevention Program (GCSAPP) for many years. Choice Pass started as an incentive to support kids and their families in choosing to be healthy and substance-free by rewarding those kids with a ski pass. The programming has expanded significantly since then, but the basic premise of incentivizing kids and their families to commit to making healthy choices remains.
Now, Choice Pass is a community-wide commitment to supporting our young people in the Gunnison Valley:
- Kids commit to making healthy choices, being substance-free, and behaving as good citizens of our community.
- Parents commit to having open, honest conversations with their kids and providing safe, substance-free environments for kids to hang out with friends.
- GCSAPP supports both youth and their families with activities, education, and other opportunities, like Activity Scholarships (applications due in early November!)
- Over 80 businesses offer perks for participating students.

Simplified Summary
The Choice Pass Community Support Fund helps a special program in Gunnison County that encourages kids in grades 6-12 to make healthy choices and stay away from drugs and alcohol. The fund was started twelve years ago in October 2013. The main idea is simple: when kids promise to be healthy and make good choices, they get rewarded with things like ski passes. Parents also join in by promising to talk openly with their kids and keep them safe. Local businesses help too by offering special deals to students who participate.
The program does more than just give out ski passes. It also provides scholarships so kids can join sports and activities, teaches parents how to talk to their children about important topics, and brings the whole community together to support young people. Over 60 local businesses are part of the program! The fund helps pay for all these different activities and programs throughout the year.
Anyone can help support local kids by donating money to the Choice Pass Community Support Fund. The donations help pay for things like scholarships, parent education classes, and other programs that keep kids healthy and active in the community. It’s a great way for the whole Gunnison Valley community to show they care about young people making good choices.
